Controlled Substances
Safety and Risk Management partners with the Office Research and Innovation (OVPRI) to assist all individuals involved in the use of controlled substances for research in complying with all state and federal regulations regarding procurement, recordkeeping, inventory, storage, use and disposal of those substances.
Principal investigators using controlled substances in research must obtain a Virginia Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substances Registration and a DEA Registration prior to ordering or using controlled substances.
During laboratory safety visits SRM confirms compliance with the VCU Controlled Substance Policy, DEA and VBOP Regulations.
SRM visits include verifying:
- Records Verification (Acquisition, use, disposal)
- Active Licenses and Registrations
- Training
- Controlled Substance storage and use
- Controlled Substance disposal procedures
