VCU provides radiation monitoring devices to staff, faculty or investigators and students age 18 years or older working with sources of radiation in accordance with State regulations for the control of radiation pertaining to the use of radioactive materials or radiation producing devices. Optically Stimulated Luminescent (OSL) personnel monitoring dosimeters are the primary radiation monitoring devices used at VCU or VCU Health. The Safety and Risk Management Radiation Safety Section assigns the badges to personnel that has the potential of receiving greater than 100 mRem of occupational exposure a year in their job assignments.   Training is required prior to the issuance of the dosimeters.
